Giants Of The Sky Swoop In

Wings of Glory Giants of the Sky Kickstarter Bundle

They have landed! The Wings of Glory Giants of the Sky Kickstarter Bundle, with 2 each of the Handley-Page O/400 and the Zeppelin Staaken R.VI bombers (from World War I). They are impressive models and very very large, the might be 1/144th scale, but… they are very imposing.

The German Zeppelin Staaken R.VI was the largest airplane ever to fight during World War 1, with a wingspan more than 30 feet larger than a WW2 B-17 Flying Fortress. These leviathans of the air were used in the last months of the war in pivotal historical events, such as the raids over London in 1918. Read more about the Staaken here.

Interesting to note that the blue of Schoeller’s Zeppelin Staaken R.VI above is quite different from that originally advertised – it’s almost purple versus the sky-blue preproduction official photographs (see below):

The British Handley Page O/400 was a colossal Entente bomber used to support ground troops on the Western Front and fly bombing raids deep into the enemy territory… These leviathans of the air were used in the last months of the war in pivotal historical events, such as the strategic bombing of industrial complexes in Germany. Fantastic looking addition to the collection – now I just have to figure out what to do with them! You can see more on these at the Wings of Glory Special Packs page.

  1. To think I have only Caproni, and that is both large and impressive. I look forward to seeing some more photos out of the box, perhaps involved in a game.
