No I'm not associated with Litko and don't get any benefit from advertising them - I just think they have one of the best ranges of general purpose wargaming products around!

As reported by Kieran Mahony - this report is a modified version
of that originally published on the
Lead
Adventure Forum.
This game was to introduce Andrew (an AWC member) to colonial gaming using the TSATF rules, so Kieran tried to take it easy on him and present a fun game. They used standard TSATF rules (not the Darkest Africa variant) and Kieran created some additional stats for the East Africa forces with info from the Colonial Wars and OstAfrika Yahoo Groups, along with the TSATF books.
The scenario was for the German forces, under the intrepid Lt.
Colonel Gottwald Kofler, to probe forward and release the white
explorers held captive in the village, while the Arabs & Natives
were trying to stop them. The background was that the explorers
had been captured by the local natives and were on the menu
tonight. The Arab Slavers in the area were unhappy with the
Germans interference so
they decided to help the natives prevent the Germans saving their
explorers.
The German forces consisted on 1 unit of Marines (20 figs), 1 unit of Askaris (20 figs) and 1 Machine gun (4 figs). The Arabs & Natives had 4 units of Native spearmen (20 figs each), 1 unit of Native rifles (20 figs), 1 Arab rifle unit (20 figs), and 1 Arab ancient smoothbore gun (4 figs). The figures are a mix of Foundry, Copplestone, Pulp, Old Glory (the captive explorers), and a couple of Redoubt's.
The tents were from Hovels, the village from Grand
Manner, the stone heads from Eureka and the 'Dino' bones and
ruin Kieran has posted about on
the
Lead
Adventure Forum in detail. Upper left some of the local wildlife looking for dinner. The lions are
Foundry and we believe the cats are GW.
At the bottom of the table (photo top of page) is the German camp and the top of the table is the Native village. Unfortunately Kieran left his cloth at home so he had to use one from the club's supply and it was a bit too dark for the rest of his terrain.
Directly above is a view of the
Native village. The buildings and campfire
are Grand Manner (as
mentioned) and
the fences are hand made from garden twigs wired together.
The stone heads are from Eureka and they appear in a few of
Kieran's
games.
Below the village we see a close up of the captured explorers. Its too late for one of
them as they are already in the cooking pot! They are part of a War
Chiefs and Explorers
pack from Old Glory and some of the
figures are nice, while the others have some, lets say interesting, anatomy!
The German Marines (Seebatalion) are pictures above and right and are by Copplestone, Pulp, and Redoubt. They mix pretty well together except the Redoubt who are a bit dwarfish but are still okay.
Below is the camp with a few Askaris and Marines. The Germans are ready to go but the Askaris look like they are still getting out of bed (only 2 figs have mustered into formation in front of the camp)!

Below is the position after the first turn below. Kieran's opponent split his units into 10-fig detachments (or sub-units) and then also detached some scouts ahead from each of these.

The first Arabs appear. This gun was deployed quite far forward
as Kieran figured he may as well start shooting early in the game,
before the gun gets overrun. The crew were from a Foundry Askari
mountain gun pack [actually the Zanzibari's with Antique
Cannon - Foundry pack DA4/4 - Ed.] and the actual gun was
from a pirate ship. Kieran had seen
references where the Arabs in East Africa used antiquated guns
similar to this so that was a good enough excuse to field one!
The scouts discover some natives (below). A couple of Askari scouts found their first spot of trouble in the form of a unit of native riflemen. The riflemen promptly opened up and killed both scouts. Ouch!
