Epic 40K Chaos (Tzeentch) Army - Part2

Introduction

To find out more about this army and its background, refer to Part 1. Part 1 covered all the vehicles and large creatures, while Part 2 covers the foot infantry and light vehicles/skimmers.

The colour scheme I used was mostly a blue and yellow combo along with Gold and Red and all Vallejo colours. I used different colour combos for each platoon since the vehicles are chaos and not as uniform as the loyal marine chapters (well thats my take on it all).

Tzeentch Lord of Change

Rather than use the expensive and hard to get GW model, I used this proxy from Reaper miniatures. It is a Vulture Demon which was modified with a spot of Greenstuff around the neck. I realised too late my model is leaning forward too much and should have been straightened.

Chaos Space Marines

I decided to convert some standard Space Marines to make the look more chaosy and because I didn't have any original chaos marine figures. These figures are a mix of the first epic marines and later versions. I used some plasticard strip which I cut to different shapes and added the tall bit hehind their helmets. Another feature that I noticed with chaos marines is their large backpacks so I added some new backpacks. I raided my bits box and added parts such as individual 1/72 track links (from ww2 tanks), 40K Dark Eldar spikes and whatever else fitted.

More Chaos Marines

Converting 15 bases (60 figures) to make a full unit of Space Marines proved quite labourious, but the completed figures look great. I went with a bright blue and yellow combination and the stand out well on the table.

Traitor Marines

These are painted in the colour of Thousand Sons. This was my first batch of marines so I kept it simple and I was experimenting with base colours and washes. Also I painted on a T housand Sons chapter marking on the shoulder pad.

Assault Marines (Raptors)

The idea for these was taken from old GW White dwarf magazines where I saw conversions of assault marines made them look like they are using their jump packs. The smoke and flames was made by drilling holes into the backpacks and using thin pieces of wire to hold up the figures, and building up the flames with modeling putty.

Heavy weapons Marines (Havoks)

These are the original Space marine missile launchers where you get a few of this model per sprue. I had enough for 2 launchers per base and thart is enough for them to stand out on the table.

Marine Aspiring champions

For these I used a mix of Space Marine command figures (leaders and sergeants)which were painted in a range of different colours. I swapped a arm on one of the Marines with a claw arm from a Slannesh champion figure.

Chaos Cultist

These are Chaos Cultists from Vanguard Miniatures and are beautiful figures. I used a mix of Hellborn Cultists, Cult Zealots, Cult Destroyers and Mutants. I painted 80 figures (20 bases) so I split them into batches of 10, and each group had a different highlight colour. This unit was given yellow highlights and the other unit blue. Very nice and colourful results I think.

More Chaos Cultists

More photos of these great figures. You can see the mix of poses and weapons which creates a nice irregular look to the unit. They may be too colourful for cultists but I like my armies to be noticeable on the table.

Cultist Aspiring champions

These are a mix of Cultists and a few Slannesh figures. For these I added standards from some 6mm fantasy figures and the mutant figures were perfect as standard bearers.

Tzeentch Disc riders

I had these for a while and intially I wasn’t keen on painting as I didn’t like the figures. But when I painted them I discovered they have some nice details and are have a quirky charm about them. For this unit I painted the discs green and the rider in Tzeentch colours.

Tzeentch Disc riders

A second unit of disc riders with but pink discs and different coloured cloaks, which helps to distinguish them on the table.

Chaos Dreadnoughts

The original Chaos dreadnoughts which look nothing like the latest 40K Dreadnought models! A simple model which still comes up great with with some effort.

More Chaos Dreadnoughts

For this unit I painted them in a red scheme to match the red on some of the vehicles but mostly because I was sick of painting blue and yellow colours.....

Zulu AA guns

After experiencing the effect of airpower I quickly scratch-built some AA! guns The AA top part is from Vanguard and is a Novan vehicle upgrade. The AA base is made from a piece of x shaped sprue, which I reshaped, and then added a few small pieces of plastic. The crew are a mix of Cultist and Novan winter specialists.

Hell blade interceptors

These are the first 3D prints in this scale I have tried. They were downloaded off Thingverse and printed with a 0.2mm nozzle at 0.08mm layer height. Very well designed models which were easy to print good looking models. In Epic terms they are very effective against other flyers.

Objective markers

It was fun to make some interesting looking objective markers and the options are endless. Most are using stuff from 40K bits and the drums/boxes are from Leven miniatures, the radar dish is from Scotia-Grendel.

Objective markers

More markers. You can see a number of Eldar 40K parts and the tall pillar was made from a scrap piece of laser cut mdf. These don't have much of a chaos theme but are still good,

Another view of the radar disk and another Eldar themed piece.
