For my Colonial Games using TSATF I like to have a few ‘personality’ figures to add to the games or campaigns over and above the standard units and commanders. Graf von Schnyder is a German Adventurer and Big Game Hunter who has travelled to the southern-most reaches of the Sudan and beyond retracing Samuel Baker’s epic journey, in addition to visiting other parts of Africa and the Pacific. Independently wealthy Schnyder is on a self obsessed mission to become world famous ‘somehow’ with the currently popular ‘Geographic Society’ and earn his immortality!
TSATF Games: Experienced Big Game Hunter (similar to The Sword in Africa), he’s brave, but not always as outrageously brave as he likes to tell everyone, so counts as:
- Shoots as a British Rifle but with 30″ range.
- Close Combat fights as normal British / Indian soldier.
- Counts as normal British Morale in TSATF.
(or as a European Veteran in TSNS with D20 Morale).
Campaigns: Adds Nothing – He will insist on personally leading Scouting Missions and such due to his ‘adventuring experience’ but he’s actually not that good at it, being used to having everything catered for him!
Experience: Graf von Schnyder has been present at the following actions:
- The Battle of Baqah al-Garbiyyah Oasis – January 1884
- The Gardner’s Jammed & The Yorks Vanquished – February 1884 near Dongola, where he was killed in action against Dervish Ansars.
Note: I work on my figure scale in TSATF representing the equivalent of 10 real soldiers if British / Imperial forces, and 20 real warriors / tribesmen if Native Armies; so my characters (which are 1 figure representing 1 or perhaps 2 real people) tend to have only 1 subtle added ‘bonus’ ability, since they are already effectively 5 to 10 times more powerful due to the figure having the base same ability as one representing 10 or more real soldiers.
